“Norway Says” puts Scandinavian design on the map. The Norwegian designer trio started out in the furniture business. Now, the designer partners have expanded their repertoire to include glass, lamps, electronics and textiles. 11/9/2007 :: The trio consists of Torbjørn Andersen, Espen Voll and Andreas Engesvik, and was established as a designer project in 2000. As young designers from Norway it was necessary to zoom in on the international market to be able to establish oneself as a designer. Today, the trio is cooperating with producers in Italy, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, as well as Norwegian companies, such as L. K. Hjelle and Asono. “The first year in Milan [2000] was of great significance to us. Scandinavian design was in the spot light. We were from Norway and a part of the concept “Scandinavian design”, says Andreas Engesvik from “Norway Says”. Many years of hard work has finally lead to the most prominent recognition any designer can get. Recently the Norwegian partnership received the leading designer award in the world, Torsten and Wanja Söderberg’s Prize 2007, which is presented by the Röhsska museum in Sweden. Designers cannot apply to be nominated for the award, but is carefully selected by a jury that follows the designers and their work for a period of one and a half year. The award is worth SEK 1 millon. “”Norway Says” has since it was established in 2002 been one of the most dynamic and successful design teams in the Nordic region. Their innovative furniture, textiles, glass, lighting and other objects have put Norwegian and Nordic design on the international map, and have won acclaim all over the world,” states the panel. “A prize like this means a lot. It’s a fine recognition of our projects from a highly profound jury, after years of hard work”, says Andreas Engesvik. "Mica" MP3 player. Designed by Norway Says. Produced by Asono. Photo: MIR.
